The 2024 Illinois International Accounting Symposium will be held jointly with the 2024 Nanyang Business School Accounting Conference in Singapore. The symposium will be held at the new Gaia Building (https:\/\/www.ntu.edu.sg\/news\/detail\/gaia-the-largest-wooden-building-in-asia-launched<\/a>), a zero-energy building and the largest wooden building in Asia on the Nanyang Technological University campus.<\/p>\n

The theme of the conference will broadly be on the interplay between accounting and ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), with an emphasis on sustainability. While there is a preference for papers on ESG, manuscripts in all areas of research in accounting using all methods are welcome. Selection of papers will depend on novelty, quality, and incremental contribution to the accounting literature. Submitted papers must not have been published or submitted elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Papers accepted for presentation at the symposium will be published in regular issues of\u00a0The International Journal of Accounting<\/em>, subject to satisfactory revisions and receiving a positive review by one reviewer. The symposium will contribute to the cost of travel of one author per paper.<\/p>\n

PhD Consortium<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0PhD\u00a0Consortium\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Illinois\u00a0International\u00a0Accounting\u00a0Symposium\u00a0provides\u00a0a\u00a0forum\u00a0for\u00a0doctoral\u00a0students\u00a0to\u00a0receive\u00a0inspiration\u00a0from their peers and discuss their research objectives\u00a0with senior members of the community in the context of an established international\u00a0conference.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0PhD\u00a0Consortium\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0held\u00a0on\u00a0Monday,\u00a0June\u00a03,\u00a02024,\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0afternoon.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0invite\u00a0PhD\u00a0students\u00a0to\u00a0submit\u00a0research\u00a0papers\u00a0or\u00a0short\u00a0proposals\u00a0in\u00a0any\u00a0topic\u00a0areas\u00a0of\u00a0accounting\u00a0(e.g.,\u00a0international\u00a0accounting,\u00a0empirical capital markets research, financial\u00a0analysis, corporate governance, financial accounting, managerial accounting, ESG, auditing,\u00a0taxation,\u00a0etc.)\u00a0There\u00a0is\u00a0no\u00a0submission\u00a0fee.<\/p>\n

Up to 25 PhD students will be invited to participate\u00a0at the Consortium and present their work. An invitation will be based on the\u00a0quality\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0submitted\u00a0work\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0potential\u00a0for\u00a0contributing\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0literature.\u00a0Each\u00a0participating\u00a0student\u00a0will\u00a0have\u00a020\u00a0minutes\u00a0for presentation,\u00a0discussion,\u00a0and\u00a0feedback.<\/p>\n

Beyond\u00a0the\u00a0presentations\u00a0from\u00a0PhD\u00a0students,\u00a0participating\u00a0faculty\u00a0will\u00a0present\u00a0in\u00a0workshops\u00a0on\u00a0issues\u00a0related\u00a0to:\u00a0research\u00a0methods\u00a0and design, future research directions, editorial advice for preparing and submitting\u00a0papers to journals, guidance for professional development,\u00a0etc.<\/p>\n
