Theatre Pedagogics: Facilitating the Development of Humanistic Capabilities in Accounting
Come Play in Prague. The EAA Education Committee warmly invite you to a complementary Hackathon education workshop Theatre Pedagogics: Facilitating the Development of Humanistic Capabilities in Accounting. It is an immersive hackathon designed with purpose using theatre pedagogics to hack diversity and inclusion in accounting education, build educator skill capacity and provide opportunities to create inclusive learning approaches that develop the skills and capabilities accounting graduates need to navigate diverse workplaces, negotiate uncertain and complex environments, and communicate to effect inclusive change. What better way to facilitate humanistic capabilities in accounting than through the theatre!
In keeping with this year’s conference location, as a ‘living museum’, the accounting hackathon will emphasise the dramatic arts and culture, placing participants inside the world of theatre to encourage artistic exploration and performance. By merging theatre and pedagogy, theatre pedagogics employs techniques such as role-playing, improvisation, performance, and dramatic storytelling to facilitate active learning and self-reflection. Participants will explore how making use of these theatrical approaches can help students build confidence, enhance learning, develop emotional and social skills, and foster personal growth in a dynamic and engaging manner. The event will challenge accounting educators to think beyond traditional boundaries, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and the application of theatre to accounting education.
Participants will work collaboratively with peers from across geographic locations, using theatre methods to hack diversity and inclusion in accounting education. Working together in small groups, participants will engage in a co-design process to create innovative, experiential ‘in-class’ learning materials or activities that showcase diversity and inclusion best practice in accounting. Participants will document their shared learnings, resource design and activity outcomes as well as presenting their work together with peers. Participants will build capacity through interactive curricula design, pedagogical development and exposure to multiple co-designed learning materials that can be applied to their own educational contexts.
The hackathon is designed to appeal to accounting educators at all experience levels, providing a supportive yet challenging environment to foster growth. By engaging participants in hands-on, collaborative activities, the event will equip participants with actionable insights and tools that positively influence student learning outcomes and foster a deeper understanding of how to facilitate and develop critical humanistic capabilities needed in accounting.
