ASSIGNMENT

The Faculty of Economics and Business at Ghent University has a vacancy for a full-time lecturer position (tenure track) in the Accountancy, Corporate Finance and Taxation department, specializing in taxation. This is a five-year, temporary tenure-track position. After this five-year period and a favorable evaluation, a permanent appointment as a senior lecturer will result.

The start date for the vacant position is September 1, 2026. 

The lecturer fulfills a teaching role in various programs at our faculty, initially in master’s programs. In addition, the lecturer independently develops scientific research.

Academic education

You will teach various taxation courses in the Master of Business Administration, specializing in Taxation (Dutch-taught program), such as Research Methods in Taxation and the in-depth Corporate Tax & Accounting Law course. This course requires expertise in Belgian tax law (Corporate Income Tax).

In addition, you will teach a course related to taxation in the Master’s program in Business Economics and Taxation, such as Tax Planning and Strategy. This is also a Dutch-taught master’s program.

The package of training components to be taught can be adapted during your career, depending on, among other things, the educational needs within the team you will be part of.

You actively contribute to educational innovation within the faculty.

 

Scientific research

You independently develop scientific research in the field and are open to collaboration with other members of the department.

The lecturer’s field of business economics research is situated within the broad domain of corporate taxation and preferably shows sufficient overlap with the research lines in the department (environmental taxes, fiscally responsible entrepreneurship, fiscal incentives for R&D, measures against tax avoidance such as minimum tax or fiscal transparency, etc.).

You are expected to publish in leading international journals, in accordance with Ghent University’s publication policy.

You initiate new research lines and develop project proposals with a view to acquiring research funding.

You are building an international network.

You will supervise master’s and doctoral students in their dissertations. You will provide motivational and coaching guidance, focusing on the growth and development of your students and staff.

 

Scientific services

Using your expertise and experience, you will contribute to the work of the department, faculty, and university, and/or undertake external assignments for social and scientific services.

 

 

PROFILE

Knowledge/experience

  • You have a strong academic CV with international visibility in the required field, as demonstrated by publications in high-quality scientific journals or books.
  • Your achievements in research and education contribute to the development of the scientific field (through publications, presentations, or other academic output).
  • You are able to initiate and supervise educational and research projects and acquire the necessary funding for this.
  • You possess teaching skills aimed at developing and achieving academic competencies in university students. These teaching skills are based on a thorough knowledge of tax law.
  • Recommended:
    • International mobility, including research stays at research institutions external to the institution at which the highest academic degree was obtained;
    • Positively evaluated experience with teaching at an academic level;
    • Educational professionalization.
  • You work collaboratively and integrate smoothly into the department/faculty.
  • You look for opportunities within and outside the university and actively use your network.

  • When taking a course assignment, you must be proficient in the language of instruction for the course (this assignment only includes courses taught in Dutch). You must have a C1 proficiency in the language of instruction in which you will teach a course. APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

 

We offer you a temporary appointment under a Tenure Track system for a period of five years. If the university board approves your appointment, it will be converted into a permanent position as a senior lecturer.
If you already hold a professorship at a university or research institution, you may be appointed immediately as a lecturer, without prejudice to the possibility of a temporary appointment.

The entry into service is from September 1, 2026.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

 

The selection committee conducts an initial, substantive screening of the eligible applications based on their application. This assessment takes into account both the candidate’s merits and potential.

 

Ghent University emphasizes the qualitative assessment of academic performance. Therefore, candidates are asked in the application form to list their most significant academic or non-academic achievements with the greatest impact.

 

For shortlisted candidates, the following steps in the selection procedure consist of at least:

  • a selection interview in which the vision and planning regarding education, research, and institutional and social engagement as well as the embedding in the bigger picture are discussed
  • a written text with a vision on education and research
  • a trial lesson on a subject in the relevant field
  • a screening of leadership and interpersonal skills

 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

  • You hold a doctoral degree by thesis or a diploma or certificate recognized as equivalent.

 

  • You have at least two years of postdoctoral experience as of September 1, 2026. The two-year period is determined based on the date stated on the requested diploma.

 

  • Your application meets the formal requirements (submitted on time, complete: with completed application form and copy of diploma, submitted via e-recruitment).
