About

The 2021 Advances in Accounting Research Conference will be held in Albuquerque on November 13-14, 2021.

We invite submissions of original papers that address research questions in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, tax, auditing, forensics, social and environ-mental accounting, government and not-for-profit accounting, and public policy. Papers can use basic or applied research methods including analytical, archival, experimental, survey, or case study. We especially welcome papers that exploit an international reporting or a non-U.S. regulatory setting to examine interesting accounting-related questions. We will consider original research in any of the areas identified above, and we particularly encourage submissions related to any of the following themes:

• The application of new data or methods to study current accounting research questions (e.g., conference calls videos or audio transcripts, corporate lobbying, mutual funds, etc.);

• How firms, managers, or financial markets respond to risks and uncertainty, especially during crises like COVID-19, economic shocks like the great recession, business environment disruptions like climate change, or regulatory requirements like new financial reporting or tax standards.

• The influence of new technology and COVID-19 on the audit process, and the impact on audit team dynamics or management of the auditor/client relationship.

Papers accepted to the conference will be published in Advances in Accounting, subject to authors satisfactorily addressing comments from the reviewers and discussants.

The conference will pay for two nights’ stay in the conference hotel for one presenter for each paper. A best conference paper will be selected and recognized with a $500 award. There will also be a best-discussant award. To submit a paper to the conference, please follow the regular submission procedures for Advances in Accounting that can be found on the journal’s website, and also send an email to Dennis Caplan at dcaplan@albany.edu indicating that you would like your paper considered for the conference.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 31, 2021. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by August 15, 2021. Papers that are not accepted for the conference will be processed as regular submissions to the journal. Conference hotel to be announced later.
