Professor of Digital Futures

The role

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Law is delighted to announce five new appointments (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor and Professor) to drive interdisciplinary research and partnership collaboration with the newly established Bristol Digital Futures Institute (BDFI). BDFI is committed to changing how we think about ‘digital futures’ and how we create technologies for inclusive, sustainable and prosperous societies. With £100m investment through the Research England Research Partnership Investment fund, BDFI will open bespoke cutting-edge research, education and co-creation facilities in early 2022 as part of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus. In making these new appointments we aim to diversify the BDFI portfolio of expertise, building on three previous appointments made in 2021.

We welcome applications from Accounting and Finance, Economics, Education, Law, Management, Policy Studies, Politics/International Relations and Human Geography.

The successful candidates will have a ‘home’ in whichever is the most appropriate School, however for the first five years these appointments will be seconded to the BDFI and play a critical role in shaping the intellectual agenda of the Institute at an exciting time in its development.

What will you be doing?

  • Drive a programme of internationally excellent interdisciplinary research in digital futures.
  • Build interdisciplinary research capacity, within the University of Bristol and beyond.

  • You are searching for a strategic leadership role and would welcome the opportunity to drive this new research institute forward.
  • You have an outstanding international reputation for excellence in research related to the BDFI, linked to one or more of the disciplinary areas listed above.
