Welcome to EAA 2017 Dear Colleagues, It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 40th Annual Congress of the European Accounting Association, which will be hosted by the University of Valencia on May 10-12, 2017. The congress will take place at the Valencia Conference Centre, a stunning building designed by Sir Norman Foster, as well as in two adjacent hotels, Sorolla Palace and Meliá Valencia. The University of Valencia, founded in 1499, is today the result of more than five centuries of history that have led to a remarkable accumulation of knowledge and unique documentary treasures. As a modern European public university, it features in major international rankings. Thus, it ranks as the second university in Europe in receiving Erasmus students; regarding its research dimension it ranks as the fourth university in Spain as well as the fourth Spanish institution worldwide. In its four campuses, it has more than 40,000 students, offers degrees in all fields of knowledge (basic and experimental sciences, engineering, health sciences, humanities, education, social, economic and legal sciences). Valencia is one of the sunniest, warmest, and indeed most beautiful of Mediterranean cities. With a population of one million inhabitants, it is the third largest city in Spain. Most importantly, Valencia never ceases to surprise, from the former bed of the River Turia, which has now been converted into a delightful eleven kilometre long garden, to the visible traces of ancient civilizations that today peacefully coexist with modern bridges and stylish buildings. We are planning our social events in some of these beautiful locations, the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, in the old riverbed, and Hotel Las Arenas, a magnificent hotel complex on the seashore. The Doctoral Colloquium will take place in Parador El Saler on May 6-9, 2017. This venue is located in the Albufera Nature Reserve, whose natural heritage includes a Mediterranean pine forest located between a fresh water lagoon and the sea, only 18km south of Valencia city centre. In 2017, two important events will take place. The Faculty of Economics of our University will commemorate its 50th anniversary, while the EAA will hold its 40th Congress. This is a timely coincidence, which we are more than happy to celebrate together. We are looking forward to welcoming you warmly to Valencia in May 2017, EAA 2017 Organizing Committee |
