The EAA’s Financial Reporting Standards Committee in cooperation with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), EFRAG and the UK Endorsement Board (UKEB) will hold a workshop on IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts on  6 May 2026 from 14:00 – 16:00.

IFRS 17 has been in effect since 1 January 2023. A post-implementation review (PIR) has not been scheduled yet but will take place in due course. The aim of the workshop is to encourage more research into IFRS 17 and its application.  Specifically, the workshop aims to inform on the type of information that standard setters and endorsement bodies will welcome as part of the PIR.

The workshop is aimed at all academics with an interest in financial reporting, including those who have not yet familiarised themselves with IFRS 17.  Participants will be helped to understand how selected technical issues fit into IFRS 17’s overall approach in conceptualising the economic performance in the insurance industry.

In this workshop Florian Esterer, IASB member, and  Anne McGeachin, IASB technical staff member, will provide an educational introduction on IFRS 17.  Harm van de Meerendonk, NN Group, will discuss experience with IFRS 17 from a preparer point of view.  Sapna Heeralla, EFRAG staff member, and Annette Davis, UKEB staff member, will reflect on the Standard from an endorsement perspective.  Zoltan Novotny-Farkas, an academic contributor from Wirtschafts Universität (WU) Vienna, will review academic research. Kees Camfferman, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will moderate the workshop.  The presentations will be followed by discussion among panel members and the audience about future research opportunities related to IFRS 17.

Registration for the workshop is available here.
