Welcome to EAA 2014

Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 37th Annual Congress of the European Accounting Association in Estonia which will be held jointly by the EAA and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Tartu. The congress will take place in Tallinn, in the capital of Estonia, on May 21-23, 2014.

University of Tartu was founded in 1632, being one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe. Today, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings places University of Tartu among the top 3% in 2012 and among 1% of the most-cited universities and research institutions in 9 research areas.
Business and economics have been taught in Tartu for more than 70 years, and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) has today more than 1300 students. Research in FEBA has led to multiple social applications for Estonian rising economy.

The co-organizer and one of the main venue of the congress is the Estonian Business School (EBS). Founded in 1988, EBS is the oldest private business university in the Baltics. Located today in Tallinn and Helsinki, it has more than 1,500 students, about 20% of them international.

We are delighted to provide an opportunity for our colleagues from all over the world to strengthen their cooperative ties. Year 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the enlargement of the European Union. Thus, we hope that the congress will help to promote accounting and finance through the exchange of pan-European and global views and ideas.

Your city for the congress, Tallinn, has the crisp and noble atmosphere of a Nordic capital, being that for one of the smallest nations in Europe with their own language and country. Tallinn is known for its superbly preserved medieval city centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has rich cultural scene, beautiful surroundings and plenty of galleries, cafes and restaurants of many kinds to welcome visitors.

The Doctoral Colloquium will take place in Tartu on May 17-20, 2014. Tartu is the main academic centre of Estonia, located 185 km south of the capital Tallinn. It is the seat of five universities, about third of its 100,000 inhabitants are students and staff of the universities. The town itself has been on this spot by the Emajõgi river since 7th century. Old and still youthful, modern and full of greenery.

We suggest you to take some more time for exploring the beauty and hospitality of our small country.

We are looking forward to warmly welcome you to Estonia in May 2014,

EAA 2014 Organizing Committee
