Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the 1st European Sustainability Accounting & Reporting Conference (ESARC) organised by Aalborg University Business School in Aalborg, Denmark. Aalborg University Business School (AAUBS) is located in Aalborg and takes 20 minutes by bus from the city centre. Aalborg is easy to reach by flight, train, or car. This is the first conference of its kind in Europe focusing specifically on all aspects of research on Sustainability Accounting and Sustainability Reporting. The conference comprises parallel full paper with discussants, developmental paper sessions and a doctoral stream.

The ESARC Conference welcomes submissions on multiple themes within the general scope of Sustainability Accounting and Sustainability Reporting that includes, but is not limited to, the following research areas are of interest:
• The purpose of the modern corporate report
• Implementation of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) in corporations
• The effectiveness of sustainability reporting standards
• Sustainability accounting measurement, metrics, KPIs and disclosure
• The composition, visualisation, and format of sustainability reports
• Sustainability accounting, reporting, and accountability in the public sector
• Sustainability reporting assurance of and the future of auditing, assurance and related standards
• The role of sustainability accounting and sustainability reporting in capital markets
• ESG reporting versus sustainability reporting
• Data sources for ESG information, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) and other business intelligence systems
• Double materiality and business risk assessments
• Sustainable governance
• Current issues in the sustainability reporting standards arena – standards or standardisation?

The ESARC Conference welcomes papers using different methodological, empirical, theoretical, and conceptual approaches, including action research, case studies or experiments. Papers are invited on these topics and on other aspects of Sustainability Accounting and Sustainability Reporting.

DEADLINE
Papers should be submitted by 31st May 2024 (please mark as FULL or DEVELOPMENTAL paper) by emailing to esarc@business.aau.dk

Abstract and Full Paper
Please submit an abstract and full paper (up to 12,000 words) for parallel sessions. Discussants will be allocated to full paper submissions, and we expect that all presenters will be prepared to act as discussants on other papers and to chair a session. Please submit an abstract (maximum 500 words) or short developmental paper (up to 5,000 words) for developmental paper sessions.

Notification of Acceptance
The acceptance of submissions will be announced by 7th June 2024

Registration & Early Bird Fee
The registration is open and the Deadline for the Early Bird Fee (1.500 Dkr) is Friday 21th June 2024 (thereafter 2.000 Dkr).
