Martin Valcke and Patricia Everaert (Ghent University)

How to motivate students to learn?  Different frameworks and theories are available from Educational, Psychological and Sports Sciences.

Prof. Valcke will explain different motivational theories and explain how they can be applied in every day teaching to boost students’ motivation to engage. The session will be hands-on, providing ideas for the own practice.

Professor dr. Martin Valcke

Prof. dr. Martin Valcke is full professor in educational sciences field at Ghent University. He is specialized in the innovation of higher education and focuses strongly on the integrated use of information technologies, staff development, quality assurance and innovation management.

He is involved in (inter)national research and consultancy projects in countries of Africa, Middle America, and Asia. His research builds on initiatives of the World Bank, the European Commission, WHO, etc. He has published a wide variety of international journals and international books. Professor dr. Patricia Everaert

Prof. dr. Patricia Everaert is full professor at the research group Accounting Education (Ghent University). Her expertise is in the area of Financial and Management Accounting.  In the last decade she specialized in accounting education research, investigating teaching innovations to engage active learning (team learning, digital learning, gamification, …).  At several annual conferences of the EAA, she shared her expertise in the so-called Classroom Sessions.
