The EAA Education Committee is glad to announce an online education event on “Supporting students in times of crisis”.

Description of Session:
This session aims to provide practical guidance to accounting educators in supporting students in times of societal and ecological crisis. Speakers will identify challenges faced by students, including emotional responses such as ecoanxiety, which impact on students’ wellbeing.
Speakers will discuss a range of techniques and pedagogical approaches to supporting students during these challenging times. This webinar is relevant for all educators looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of challenges faced by accounting students, by offering practical guidance to educators in supporting their students.

Bios:
Lisa Powell is an interdisciplinary educator and researcher at Monash Business School. Lisa has a PhD in Accounting and has completed further studies in Psychology and Education. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK and has received several teaching awards including the Australian Award for University Teaching 2023 Award for Teaching Excellence for her work in rewilding accounting education. Lisa develops innovative pedagogies that consider ecological emotions, incorporating compassion, creativity and interdisciplinary aspects to foster in students the mindset needed in working towards sustainable futures. She has a particular interest in ecological and multispecies justice, and equity and diversity, where her research incorporates posthumanist, ecofeminist, and queer theory perspectives to explore the role of accounting and accountability in social and environmental issues.
Lisa Weaver is Associate Dean (Pedagogy) at Warwick Business School and a member of WBS Senior Management Group. Lisa is professionally qualified (ICAEW), spent several years in audit practice with Deloitte and was part of the national audit training faculty at KPMG. Lisa specialises in designing and delivering modules on topics related to corporate reporting, sustainability and audit, has authored several books, co-authored education programmes and professional insights reports with accountancy professional bodies, and writes for an online accountancy CPD provider. In 2015 Lisa was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of her excellence in teaching practice and commitment to building the development of professional skills and competencies into academic teaching. In 2019, along with colleagues from Aston University and De Montford University, Lisa was shortlisted for the prestigious Finance for the Future Awards, in recognition of developing an educational business simulation incorporating aspects of sustainability.
