Inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Symposium at the 2024 EAA Congress

May 17th 9am, 2024 (Bucharest)

What does it mean to have a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) in the EAA?

What does it mean to have a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee in the EAA? How can EAA members get involved to create an equitable, diverse, and inclusive EAA community? What are the issues not identified and what are the practical feedback mechanisms for members? This interactive Symposium aims to provide space for diverse voices in the EAA and reflect together on how we foster and promote DEI within the Association and its activities. Achieving this requires intentional and systemic action. This means enhancing existing DEI interventions to identify and address barriers and promote full and equitable participation in teaching, research, and outreach. We are excited to hear from diverse voices, experts on DEI, the EAA leadership and all attendees.

The Panel will address the following questions:

  • The EAA vision and its connection with DEI; The historical contexts of DEI in the EAA
  • An example of the implementation process of DEI and its practical impacts
  • Discussion of key evidence on DEI in accounting issues and the existing DEI practices
  • What has been the progress and real impact of EAA DEI activities on its members?
  • How can the EAA DEIC support under-represented or under-resourced EAA members?
  • What are the issues not identified and what are the practical feedback mechanisms?
