The EAA Award for Academic Leadership was established in 2005 and renamed to honour Professor Anthony G. Hopwood, who played a prominent role in the creation and development of the EAA.
The award is presented each year at the EAA Annual Congress, subject to there being a worthy recipient.
The Anthony G. Hopwood Award is intended to recognise academic excellence, combined with academic leadership and contribution to the EAA.

Begoña Giner
Emerita professor at the University of Valencia, where she has served her entire career, and visiting professor at several universities in Europe (Amsterdam, Antwerp, Glasgow and Strathclyde), USA (North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Rutgers) and Argentina (Rosario).
She has been contributing to the European Accounting Association (EAA) since 1993, when she joined the Editorial Boards of its journals, and has served in several capacities within the association, including President, Chair of the Scientific Committee and of the Stakeholder Reporting Committee, and chaired the 40th EAA Congress in Valencia. She is a member of the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board representing EAA, and previously served on the EFRAG TEG at its constitution and the IFRS Advisory Council, also representing EAA. She has been a member of the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB).
She participated as faculty member in major accounting research projects financed by the European Commission and has published numerous articles, covering both financial and sustainability fields, in leading journals: Abacus, Accounting and Business Research, Australian Accounting Review, Accounting in Europe, Business History, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Social and Environmental Accountability Journal, Sustainability Accounting Management and Public Policy, among others.
